Vacation Turned Tragedy: The Chilling Message of the Teotihuacan Shooter

Tourists Experienced Moments of Terror in Teotihuacan After a Shooting That Left One Woman Dead

The atmosphere was typical of a tourist day: visitors climbing steps, cameras in hand, laughter, and guides recounting the history of ancient civilizations. No one imagined that, in that same place, a scene of absolute panic would unfold.

It all happened at the Pyramid of the Moon in Teotihuacan when a man began walking among the tourists with a strange demeanor. At first, some ignored him. Others thought it was part of something organized. But the doubt vanished the moment the first shots rang out.

The attacker was identified as Julio César Jasso Ramírez, who, without warning, opened fire on people who were simply there to visit one of Mexico's most iconic landmarks.

What followed was pure desperation. Tourists tried to quickly climb down from the structure, others hid behind walls or threw themselves to the ground to avoid the bullets. Some were paralyzed, unsure of what to do.

Amid this scene, witnesses recount that the aggressor didn't act like someone fleeing, but rather like someone who had already decided on his fate.

Before ending his life, the attacker uttered words that left many in shock:

"I have sacrificed them."

Those who heard the phrase say he said it calmly, as if it were part of a premeditated act.

The result was devastating: a Canadian tourist lost her life, and at least 13 people were injured, several of them seriously. Among those affected were foreigners who never imagined their trip would end in tragedy.

Investigations suggest the attack was not impulsive. The assailant had reportedly been in the area for days, surveying the site. He was also carrying more ammunition than he ultimately used.

Furthermore, it has come to light that he had an interest in past mass shootings, particularly the Columbine massacre, which reinforces the theory of a planned attack with deeper motivations.

After being wounded by authorities, the attacker took his own life at the scene. Although all indications are that he acted alone, investigators are continuing to examine his background, contacts, and prior activities to understand what led him to carry out such an attack.

The truth is, for those who were there, Teotihuacan ceased to be just a tourist destination… becoming instead the scene of the worst moment of their lives.
