Attempted Murder of Homeless Man in Downtown Nova Iguaçu
A 41-year-old man was shot at least five times by a suspect who chased him on a bicycle in broad daylight

Nova Iguaçu, RJ – The Civil Police are investigating an attempted murder that occurred on Monday, April 6, 2026, at approximately 2:23 p.m., on an avenue in downtown Nova Iguaçu, in the Baixada Fluminense region.
The victim is Marcelo Santos Borges, 41, who is homeless and was shot at least five times.
Security camera footage from the area captured the attack. The recordings show the victim walking on the sidewalk when a man on a bicycle approaches and fires several shots.
Marcelo Santos Borges tries to flee and gets up to run, but the assailant chases him and continues shooting. The victim falls in the middle of the road after being hit and lies on the ground while the suspect flees the scene on the same bicycle.
According to information from the Military Police, the assailant did not get off the bicycle at any point.
After the attack, passersby and vehicles drove by without providing immediate assistance to the victim, who remained on the ground until help arrived.
The Fire Department attended to Marcelo Santos Borges and transported him to the General Hospital of Nova Iguaçu (HGNI).
There, he underwent emergency surgery and remains hospitalized in stable but serious condition, according to hospital and police sources.
So far, the motivation for the attack has not been confirmed, although preliminary sources mention a possible prior disagreement between the parties.
