One early morning in downtown Naviraí, Brazil, ended in a heartbreaking scene captured by security cameras. João Vitor da Silva da Fonseca, a young man of just 25, was chatting on the sidewalk in front of a convenience store when an armed man approached him directly and opened fire without warning.

The footage shows that the first shot took him by surprise, but even so, the young man tried to react and lunged at the attacker in a desperate attempt to save his life. The two men struggled for a few seconds and ended up falling next to a trash can in front of the business.

However, as João Vitor lay weakened on the ground, the attacker repeatedly fired the weapon at very close range. Witnesses stood frozen as the young man collapsed onto the pavement, unable to receive timely help. Emergency crews arrived minutes later, but could only confirm that he had no vital signs.

What made the case even more disturbing was the coldness with which the perpetrator left the scene. According to the investigation, after the attack, he intercepted a driver and, under threat, forced him to drive through several city streets and then onto a state highway.

During this journey, the man even had to stop to refuel before the suspect got out and into another vehicle that was apparently waiting to facilitate his escape.

Authorities identified the main suspect as 29-year-old Glauber Miranda Tinoco, who was already wanted in connection with other legal cases. Although he initially escaped, he was located and arrested Sunday night in the Guassulândia district.

During the arrest, police seized a .38 caliber revolver from him, and according to the official report, he admitted his involvement in the crime.
