An attempted robbery ended in death in the El Bosque neighborhood of Cartagena after an off-duty female police officer confronted a robber inside a restaurant.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, April 11, at an establishment located across from the Cargo Corridor. According to authorities, the man arrived on a motorcycle, entered the restaurant, and went directly to a customer who was having lunch, threatening him with a firearm to steal his belongings.
Several people were present, including a minor. Two off-duty police officers were also among the diners. The officer, noticing the man's suspicious behavior and seeing him attempt to draw a weapon, reacted quickly: she approached him from behind and fired to neutralize him.
After the initial confrontation, the assailant fled the restaurant, but outside he encountered patrol cars that had already been alerted. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, the man was wounded by bullets in the abdomen and buttocks.
He was rushed to the Hospital Universitario del Caribe, where he died hours later, in the late afternoon or evening of the same day.
Unofficially, he was identified as Michell (or Maicol) Alfonso Ospino Viloria, known by the alias "El Caporo," although his identity had not been officially confirmed at first.
Authorities reported that the stolen items were recovered and the case was turned over to the CTI (Technical Investigation Corps) of the Attorney General's Office to fully clarify what happened.
