A four-year-old boy died after suffering a severe head injury while traveling on an intercity bus on the El Santuario-Granada highway, in eastern Antioquia.

According to preliminary reports gathered by authorities and witnesses, the incident occurred on Monday, April 6.

The child was traveling with his mother on a Flota Granada bus, heading towards the municipality of Granada.

At one point during the journey, when the buses crossed paths with a Coonorte bus traveling in the opposite direction, the boy was struck in the head.

Initial reports indicate that the child may have leaned part of his body out of the bus window just as the bus crossed the intersection, causing the collision with the other vehicle.

However, additional accounts suggest that the injuries may have been caused by shattered glass from the impact between the buses.

The victim's family has denied that the child stuck his head out, stating that the window where he was standing was an emergency exit and was sealed.

Immediately after the incident, passengers and the child's mother rushed to his aid. He was taken to the San Juan de Dios Hospital in El Santuario and later transferred to the Somer Clinic in Rionegro, where he remained hospitalized for several days.

Despite medical efforts, the child died from his injuries.

The child, reportedly from southern Bolívar, had recently turned four. The case remains under investigation as testimonies and technical reports are gathered.
