What should have been a farewell ended in a scene of terror in Culiacán, after an armed group opened fire on a funeral procession heading to a cemetery in the Barrancos neighborhood, south of the city.

According to reports, the attack occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 6, when several vehicles were accompanying a hearse with wreaths and floral arrangements at the intersection of Benjamín Hill Boulevard and Las Torres. At that moment, armed men intercepted the procession and began firing repeatedly at the attendees.

The attack left two people dead at the scene and at least three others wounded. One of the deceased was found inside a vehicle used to transport funeral wreaths, while another man was found lying near a blue car. Paramedics transported the injured to a hospital, though their condition has not yet been officially reported.

Local media reported that the attack occurred a few meters from a military checkpoint in the area, amid ongoing security operations in the Sinaloa state capital due to a wave of violence linked to internal disputes within organized crime.

Authorities cordoned off the area and began investigations to identify those responsible for the attack. The identities of the victims have not yet been released, nor has a possible motive for the attack been confirmed.
